There are many myths and old wives tales regarding bed bugs and one of the more bizarre is the claim that you cannot see bed bugs. The answer to the question “Can you see bed bugs?” is very simple because the truth is that while bed bugs are obviously very small and very difficult to see without specifically looking for them, when you consider that an adult bedbug is between 3 mm and 5 mm in length and of a reddish brown colour, if you look hard enough you will certainly see them – assuming you have them. The smaller baby bed bugs are between 1 mm and 2 mm in length and while they are often a little more difficult to find, if you look hard enough you will see these as well.
There is some confusion as to why this myth regarding the size of bed bugs and whether you can actually see them derived from but it would appear that a number of people became confused with regards to bed bugs and dust mites which are very different in size and look. So next time you change your bedding, turnover your mattress or indeed change your bed why not have a quick look to see whether there are any bed bugs around. If you do happen to find bed bugs there are many different treatments and products available which if used correctly can effectively wipe out any small or large infestation.
